Not your typical supermarket shopping trip
Posted on January 30, 2012
Ever since I started doing this food 365 project my supermarket trips have changed a little. I have always spent quality time in the produce section simply because I eat a lot of vegetables (and some fruit). Now, when I go shopping I am also looking for good photo subjects. There are so many interesting shapes, colors and textures to choose from!
This time I decided to buy something that, although expensive at $1.99, really caught my eye. I had never bought a pomegranate before but I couldn’t resist. There’s something about this fruit that I thought would make a fantastic photo subject. First, I separated it into halves hoping for some beautiful symmetry but it wasn’t there. Then, I had to look up the proper way to get the seeds out of a pomegranate (http://localfoods.about.com/od/pomegranates/ss/How-To-Eat-A-Pomegranate.htm). It was a lot easier than I thought and I ended up with this lovely pile of jewels. The lighting for this image is very simple: camera right is a white balanced CFL behind a translucent diffuser panel; camera left is a white foam board.
Here’s to taking a risk down an unfamiliar path. One final tip: don’t wear white
